Members of the Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in the Jewell Ridge area of Tazewell County last Tuesday after getting a report of two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
When deputies arrived, they found 44-year-old Leonard Joseph Mullins III and 19-year-old Joseph Trent Mullins. Both were residents of the home. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene.
“Something happened in the house between the father and son,” Sheriff Brian Hieatt said. “Everything was contained in the house.”
“Unfortunately, the son shot his father and then killed himself.”
No additional details were immediately available from authorities.
The family held a joint celebration of life this past Saturday at the Jewell Ridge Community Center.
According to their obituaries, Joseph was a “very humble young man who enjoyed fishing, playing video games, and making people laugh.”
Leonard “enjoyed spending time in the outdoors, shooting the bow, and collecting knives and guns. Above all his most beloved pastime was riding horses.”
