Tazewell Primary School and schools across Tazewell County wore yellow to honor the memory and the light of second-grade special education student Justin Allen Wayne Winingham, 8, who passed away Sept. 2 in a Roanoke hospital.
Yellow was Justin’s favorite color. Students were reminded to “be the light” in his memory.
Justin loved music, fireworks, loud noises, and people. He enjoyed traveling to his favorite places — Pigeon Forge, Cades Cove, and the beach. Swimming and wearing his sunglasses were among his favorite activities on sunny days.
Justin had been a student at Tazewell Primary since he was three years old.
“We loved his belly laughs, his big bright smile, his long eyelashes he would bat at all of us to get his way, and the pure joy he brought to our school,” the school said in a Facebook post. “He will be missed.”
The funeral for Justin, son of Randall Winingham and Melinda Bryant Winingham, was held last Wednesday in Tazewell.
